Downtown Pittsburgh is Clean & Safe, and welcoming…PDP initiatives and programs have helped it get that way.
The perception that Downtown is safe is also a reality. According to recent FBI statistics, Pittsburgh is one of the safest large cities in the country. Keeping Downtown streets well lit, patrolled, and clean all contribute to keeping Downtown streets safe.
There is a strong correlation between clean streets and safe streets. Low levels of litter, debris, and graffiti generally correlate with a low incidence of serious crime. The presence of PDP's Clean Team and Safety Ambassadors on city streets helps to enhance public safety and complement the work of the Pittsburgh Police.
Keeping Downtown Pittsburgh clean and safe is a shared responsibility. From the Department of Public Works, which hauls trash and cleans streets, to property owners and merchants who sweep around their buildings, to City, Port Authority, and School District police, to PDP’s Clean Team and Safety Ambassadors, we all have a role to play in keeping Downtown clean and safe.
